Are you concerned that you will be unable to do all that you need to do today? If so, apply the “divide and conquer” principle.
To conquer your work, learn to divide your day into the separate jobs that must be done. Then, concentrate your whole attention on the one thing you are doing. Refuse to think back to what you have just finished or ahead to what comes next.
Jobs can be handled wisely and well on a one-by-one basis. Those same jobs would be overwhelming if looked at all at once. You will work with a sureness that leads to success when you divide your work into separate tasks. This is the way to achievement.
All of us can awaken in the morning with a happy, cheerful outlook toward life. There is no need to be cross and irritable with the world and everyone in it.
It may be necessary for you to put forth effort in order to be cheerful and pleasant. If you do, you will feel better about yourself. You can develop a happy outlook. You can cultivate a good disposition, but no other person can do it for you. If you would like a more pleasant state of mind, make it so. As you recognize the need for change, God will help you do it.
When you awaken in the morning, turn your thoughts to pleasant things. Ask God to cleanse your mind and heart of all irritation, and greet the day with a happy heart.
Do you worry about problems? Do your concerns keep you from enjoying life?
According to Jesus, we should not worry—not even about what clothes to wear or what food to eat. Have faith, knowing that God is aware of your every need even before you ask.
Believe that God will take care of your concerns and help you solve your problems. Jesus promised, “Whatsoever you ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.”
Jesus taught us to discard worry and to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”
You cannot worry if you are keeping your eye single to God, “giving thanks in all things” and “rejoicing in the Lord always,” for faith and fear cannot occupy your mind at the same time.
We have been given life as a gift and guidelines for living it to the fullest. We need not get caught up in worldly concerns. We can live a life of faith and joy, knowing that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, God will satisfy the desires of our heart.
If you feel tired or tense it may be that you are scattering the forces of your being in surface living—not taking the time to renew yourself in quietness and prayer. Learn to be still and let go of any feelings of pressure or tension that have built up in you. Practice turning your thoughts to God.
Close your eyes. Relax your thoughts. Let your body become relaxed and open your mind to God. Say to yourself, “God is here. God is blessing my mind with wisdom, keenness, and alertness. God is filling my body with dynamic life. God is harmonizing my life with love. God directs me in all that I do.”
As you get still, tune out the outer world, and give your attention to these ideas, you will notice a difference. You will carry forward into your activities a feeling of refreshment and renewal. You will be strengthened.
It is very important that you do your best in anything you set out to do. All too many people are trying to get by with poor work, negative attitudes about their jobs, and general inadequacy and inefficiency. These people will never get the best out of life, for they are not giving their best to life.
When it appears that you have done all you can, when your capacities may seem to come to an end, God takes over—and with God all things are possible. God will give you wisdom beyond your conscious knowledge and strength beyond your physical endurance. God gives you courage instead of weakness.
As you do your part, as you work to improve your mind and your mental, spiritual, and physical abilities, you will be a ready and willing channel for God to work through. Work to the utmost of your capacity. God will then expand your capacity and your abilities.
Put your whole self into your project or job. As you give more to everything, you will gain more good results—results in the form of success, prosperity, and a feeling of well-being.
God is with you. God gives you the power to do your best. God will bless all your efforts.
