Good Judgment

THE EVER-PRESENT WISDOM OF GOD ENABLES ME TO THINK CLEARLY AND ACT WITH POISE.

To get along effectively in our world it is essential to use good judgment. This comes when we learn to think clearly and act with poise. Often we are not levelheaded because we are caught up in noise and confusion, and we take no time for stillness and quietness.

Set aside a few minutes each day to sit quietly. If you have a decision to make, be still and listen deep within your being to this “still, small voice.” Write down the thoughts and ideas that come to you. Later take a little time to think on these and decide what you will do about them. Think—then act.

With the many things that need our attention, we cannot afford to be wishy-washy thinkers—otherwise, we will stay busy all the time and yet get nothing done. Learn to use the very fountainhead of wisdom within you. In quietness turn to it, receive your guidance, and act.

For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. (Proverbs 2:6)

Simple Blessings

GOD, I GIVE THANKS FOR THE ABILITY TO FIND HAPPINESS IN COMMONPLACE THINGS.

Have you looked for blessings in commonplace things today? Are you recognizing the good that surrounds you? Instead of waiting for some great change in your life, start giving thanks for the little blessings God sends your way daily.

See new beauties in sunshine, refreshing joy in rain. Enjoy the wonders of nature. Hear music in the laughter of children. Find harmony and love in conversations. Enjoy the smile of a friend.

Even your daily duties reveal joyful opportunities for service. Your words of appreciation bless and heal others.

Be aware of the pleasures of little things today. Then you can rest assured that bigger blessings will come your way.

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much. (Luke 16:10)

Peace

GOD FILLS MY HEART WITH THE PERFECT PEACE OF JESUS CHRIST.

How can we achieve inner peace? At times our thoughts and emotions are in active combat, but we can learn to control them. This is not always easy. When we feel ourselves losing control of our emotions, we must take immediate action.

Know that there is a place of perfect peace within, and this perfect peace is only a thought away. We can turn our thoughts Godward, resting in the calm center within, and quickly be restored. Peace is not passive. It is a powerful, active state of being which overcomes any seeming confusion or turmoil.

True peace is of God. When we live in the constant awareness of our unity with God, we radiate peace to all around us. We bring understanding where there was hurt, love where there was hate, order where there was confusion, forgiveness where there was resentment. For us to have peace on earth, it must begin within each human heart.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

Ideal

I give thanks for the ability to know where I ought to go in life and for the courage and strength to pursue my God-given purpose.

To those just beginning to travel life’s turnpike—don’t start until you have your ideal; then don’t stop until you get it.

If you don’t know where you want to go you really can’t get far in life. You must take time to look deep within your heart to discover your hidden dreams and secret desires. Once you know what they are, allow these to become your ideals. Then you can begin to work toward making your ideal into a visible reality.

Concentrate your attention on your ideal. Look at it from all aspects. Give it meditative thought and prayer. Create a mental picture. Get excited about it, as if it were already done. Take whatever action you are guided to take. Put energy, effort, and time into your ideal—and you can make it real.

Trust in the LORD; and he shall give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4)

Side Trips

I am not daunted by seeming delays or unexpected interruptions. my way is divinely laid out and I meet only good on my way.

How do you most often react to an unexpected interruption? Many times we are disturbed by a telephone call, a neighbor asking for help or advice, or perhaps a child needing our attention. If we are in the midst of some special project, our emotions may range from mild annoyance to open or hidden hostility toward the one who breaks our train of thought.

If we know, however, that we are traveling the road of good, these little interruptions can be looked upon as roadside rest periods or small, adventurous side trips. As long as we know that our true destination is assured, we can even learn to find enjoyment in some of the things that seem to detain us.

We cannot live alone. We are a vital part of the whole, and as we give to others so do we receive. Often we are so refreshed by our contact with others, and so uplifted if we have been of service, that we are able to go back to our own work with new insight, inspiration, and enthusiasm.

Know for sure that if you are striving to walk the way of good, then the awareness of God’s presence will sustain you. All that you meet along the way will work for your highest good.

We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. (Proverbs 16:9)
