Ideal Self

I GIVE THANKS FOR MY GOD-GIVEN POWER TO CHANGE ALL THAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED IN MYSELF.

Have you ever studied a painting in which one stroke or color seemed to ruin an otherwise beautiful scene? How helpful it would be if we could view ourselves in just such an objective manner. Perhaps then we could see what others may never tell us, but what we should know. It could be that one annoying habit or mannerism is keeping us from being our very best.

We can help ourselves by keeping in our mind a picture of perfection—our ideal self. As we clearly imagine what we want to be, we will grow more and more into this likeness. Our old bad habits and undesirable traits will be left behind as we emerge into the new and higher self.

Visualize perfection—hold the thought for perfection and speak the word for it! Surely as we become more poised, more loving and kind, more successful, as we develop a more winsome personality—we become more effective in our world as channels of good for all.

One thing I do: forgetting the things which are behind and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13–14)

Let Go, Let God

WITH GOD’S HELP, I LET GO OF ALL PERSONAL WILLFULNESS AND SELFISH PURPOSES FROM MY LIFE.

Do you dare to say, “God’s will be done through me”? We will gladly say it and mean it when we realize that God’s will is always perfect and for the highest good of all concerned.

What are we to do when it seems that we are failing—or at least not accomplishing what we should? If we listen closely within, we will be shown how use fully what we have, or else we may be guided into using different techniques and trying new ways.

God meets our every need when we ask and listen. God’s Spirit within will lead us into the greenest pastures. Ask—listen—trust. Dare to say, “God’s will be done through me today. God will provide. God will show the way.”

Ask God to help you let go of all personal willfulness and selfish purposes from your life. Then pray, “Use me to glorify Your Holy Name. Amen.”

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. (Isaiah 26:3–4)

Love

I NOW LIVE IN THE LIGHT AND JOY OF PERFECT LOVE.

Love is a spiritual power. Love increases the growth of plant life. Love dissolves inharmonious relationships. It brings together those of like-mind for a divine purpose. Love lights the way upon a dark path. Love enables us to rise above the mundane and ordinary and see the ever-present beauty and good.

Love can never be wholly captured in words. In Truth we are still learning about love, for we are still learning about the full nature of God. God is love. Love is of God.

Nothing so blesses others as loving them. If there is a person causing trouble in your life, erase the irritation with divine love. Submit the irritation—the human error—to that spark of divinity within. As we lift others up, they often choose to remain in this higher realm. What a blessing we can be to others whenever we become a channel of God’s love.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. (I John 4:7)

The Power of Choice

I GIVE THANKS FOR THE FREEDOM TO CHOOSE MY THOUGHTS AND FOR THE RESULTS THAT FOLLOW.

We know that two objects cannot fill the same space at the same time. Likewise, two thoughts cannot occupy our mind at the same time. Our mind can’t be filled with doubts, fears, and negative thoughts if we have already filled it with positive, powerful, creative thoughts and ideas.

The thoughts we entertain manifest in our life and affairs as conditions and situations. It therefore follows that as we choose the kind of thoughts we let our mind dwell upon, we are choosing the direction our life will follow. Why not choose a life filled with happiness, health, and success? The choice is ours, and we make it with each thought we think.

The controlling principle is recorded in Proverbs 23:7, which says that as we think so we are.

Shall we begin to think thoughts of health and strength, of joy and happiness, of abundant supply and good in every form? When we dwell upon positive thoughts we can be certain that our good is on its way to bless us.

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7)

Reactions

I am triumphant in every trial I meet in life. Thank You, God.

What at first appears to be a trial may turn out to be a triumph. It all depends on how we react.

Perhaps a person has hurt our feelings—made us feel low in self-esteem—made us want to withdraw from life and living for the moment. We have an opportunity to grow through such situations. If we can overcome our negative reaction to the opinions of other people, we will experience tremendous spiritual growth.

Every day that we let God guide us rather than be buffeted by other people or circumstances is a day of victory for us. We can be certain of God’s power within us. Can we really be certain of anything else? Then let us put our faith where it should be and know that Spirit is our only true guide.

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. (Psalm 62:5–6)
