Law of Substitution

I GIVE THANKS FOR THE POWER TO TAKE CONTROL OF MY THOUGHTS.

Have you heard of the mental law of substitution? When an unhappy idea comes to mind, replace it with a good thought.

If concern about lack and limitation enters your mind, exchange it for the thought that God is your unlimited source of good. When false ideas of illness and disease appear, instead of dwelling upon them, give thanks that God’s life is now being expressed in and through your body. Should thoughts of resentment or hate come to mind, dispel them with the truth that God is within the other person and within you—and where God is present, only love will be expressed.

These are but a few examples of areas in which the law of substitution can be applied. Practice this principle in your daily life, because taking control of your thoughts is the key to your destiny.

Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth. (Colossians 3:2)

The Best Way

THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD GOES BEFORE ME, MAKING EASY AND SUCCESSFUL MY WAY.

Are you apprehensive about some coming event? Do you find yourself having a sense of dread regarding something you must do? This may be a so-called natural reaction, but actually it is unnecessary. Instead of dread, fear, or apprehension, declare that God’s Spirit goes before you, making easy and successful your way. God will prepare the way for you.

God is always with you. You simply can’t get away from His infinite, loving presence. When you refuse or neglect to acknowledge God, it is as if you are separate from your Creator. In truth, that cannot be so, for God’s Spirit abides in you.

You are always are kept in God’s loving care. The best way forward is to trust that God is directing your steps.

Love the LORD, all his faithful people! The LORD preserves those who are true to him. (Psalm 31:23)

The Holy Spirit

THE HOLY SPIRIT, WORKING IN AND THROUGH ME, CLEANSES AND PURIFIES MY BEING, FILLING ME WITH ENTHUSIASM AND PURPOSE.

What is the Holy Spirit? It is the universal Spirit of God in action. The Holy Spirit does not bring about weird, emotional, senseless experiences, as has sometimes been portrayed. The activity of the Holy Spirit never violates a person’s integrity. It never causes our emotions to have reign over sensibility. Instead, the Holy Spirit brings about a new wholesomeness, a sense of well-being and purpose for our life right here and now.

The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God in action, is individualized in you, God’s child. When you become aware of this spiritual activity, you feel enthusiasm and joy. The activity of the Holy Spirit is always uplifting, constructive, and purposeful. God’s Spirit will cleanse your mind and heart and free you from false beliefs and limited concepts. It will restore and energize your mind and body. Life will be more meaningful as you trust in God and let the Holy Spirit work in and through you.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)

Balanced Thinking

I THANK GOD FOR MY ABILITY TO THINK WITH MY HEART AS WELL AS MY HEAD. I AM UNFAILINGLY BRIGHT, KIND, AND CONSIDERATE.

Did you know that you think with your heart as well as your head? We may be intellectually wise, intelligent, and reasonable—and yet we still need to learn to think from our heart.

Thinking from the heart involves intuition, a sensitivity that transcends intellectual knowledge. We speak of “knowing” or having a feeling that does not come from our intellect. To think with the heart is to penetrate the facts, to see beneath the surface appearances, and to look at life with understanding awareness. When we are using both our head and our heart, we are bright, mentally alert, kind, and considerate.

Learn to think with your heart as well as your head. Then you will live, act, and speak in the Spirit of wisdom and love.

Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this. (II Timothy 2:7)

Talking

I DIRECT MY THOUGHTS AND ACTIONS PERSISTENTLY AND PATIENTLY TOWARD THE ATTAINMENT OF MY GOALS.

Do you talk too much about what you are going to do? It is possible to dissipate our energies through talking so much about what we are going to do that we don’t get around to the actual doing! Idle conversation uses up our energies without accomplishing anything constructive.

If you have something that you think you are going to get around to doing some day, why not start thinking in terms of now? Instead of using your energy and vitality talking about it, outline your project mentally. Follow this up with action. Act as you are shown the way. With your eye on the goal, move persistently and patiently toward it. Then you can be assured that you will do those things you really want to do.

Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! (Psalm 141:3)
