Sometimes we find ourselves putting off our spiritual growth until some future time. We may intend to study the Bible, explore prayer, attend church—but at a later time. We can make an unlimited number of excuses for postponing these practices. If this is true of you, remind yourself that you are putting off God’s abundant good. By waiting until some future time, you are delaying steps that will lead you to a happier, more prosperous, more fulfilling life.
Now is the acceptable time. The spiritual growth we may experience “tomorrow” will not help us solve the problems of today. Neither will good intentions open the door to abundant living. Begin today to practice God’s presence, study to grow in understanding, and do whatever you are guided to do to bring forth your spiritual growth.
One of the main causes of emotional distress is the refusal to face facts honestly and courageously. Rather than continuing with unrest, problems, and difficulties, let us look at our life objectively and pinpoint the real problem. As we face facts, we will then be able to deal with them.
Pretending that problems or difficulties do not exist causes more confusion and negation. Troublesome situations are not to be feared—they are to be changed. Problems are to be overcome. With God there is always the right solution.
God is your help. There is nothing that we need fear. God is greater than circumstances. Calmly face what needs to be faced. Then, after praying for guidance, take whatever action needs to be taken, knowing that God is with you.
How many unkind, unwise things we do in the name of love! We may spoil a child, give in to the selfish whims of a family member to keep the peace, or allow a friend or associate to use us. Perhaps we reluctantly go along with others in doing something that is less than desirable. This is not love. These things are done mostly from fear—the fear of not being accepted, wanted, or needed; the fear of having to stand up against another’s will; the fear of being left out; the fear of being alone.
Let us remember that our Creator’s world is filled with people and opportunities. We move toward that which brings us happiness as we put God first in our lives. We should never accept anything less than the best thoughts, the best feelings, and the highest motives for action. Then we can be sure that we are not acting out of fear, but out of true divine love.
Have you ever spent the day doing nothing and then felt tired and exhausted when evening came? Have you ever worked hard at your tasks during the day, utilized your energies to the fullest, and yet felt vital and refreshed in the evening? It is not what we do, but our attitude about what we do that leaves us fatigued and exhausted or restored and uplifted.
Some people feel old and tired at twenty, others young and exuberant at any age. It’s all in the attitude. An alert, interested, responsive mind belongs to those who are young in Spirit regardless of their chronological years.
Each day, enter into life in a way that will stimulate and excite you. Have an alert, optimistic, flexible attitude and you will be refreshed, vital, and youthful.
You are filled with divine inexhaustible energy. Yes, you most assuredly are—and this divine energy doesn’t diminish with use. It is a gift from God, available to charge your whole being with its vitalizing life. It is you who must “stir up this gift of God that is within you.” How? By thinking about this divine energy, by speaking of this divine energy, and by using this divine energy.
Do you speak with gratitude of this gift of God—or do you enjoy talking about how little energy you have, how exhausted you are, how busy you have been, and so on? Do you tackle your work with zest, vitality, and enthusiasm or are you excusing yourself because of your seeming lack of energy?
Stir up the divine energy that is within you by thinking about it, speaking about it, and using it. It will make you come alive in mind and body. You will do more, enjoy more, and attract better to you. Try tuning in to the divine inexhaustible energy that is within you.
