Cheerfulness

ONLY GOOD COMES INTO MY LIFE, FOR GOD IS IN CHARGE.

Cheerfulness is an attitude of mind that enables us to look at the bright, positive side of an experience. It enables us to give attention to the right solution to a problem, rather than focusing on the problem itself. A cheerful heart expects good, looks for good, and works toward good. As a by-product, good experiences are attracted.

Regardless of what is happening to you or around you, you can choose to develop an optimistic, enthusiastic, happy attitude toward life.

A cheerful heart makes good medicine. (Proverbs 17:22)

Be Still

I AM STILL. I RELAX AND PLACE MY TRUST IN GOD. MY STRENGTH IS RENEWED, AND I AM POISED AND SERENE.

In our busy world it is sometimes hard to be still. Yet we need times of stillness in our day if we would be renewed and healed. A poem by R.H. Grenville contains good advice for us:

Still! There is such healing in the word!
All peace is in it like a quiet pool.
It soothes the frenzied fever of the mind
And is as cool as silvered leaves after a
passing shower.

Be still, my soul! Be still a little hour,
And take content
Into your being like a sacrament.
Calm as a star above some lonely hill,
Tranquil as moonlight in a field of snow,
Unanxious, patient, certain of God’s love,
Be still! Be Still…and KNOW.

Be still and know that God is at work in your life and in the world. Be confident that God’s love and goodness prevail. Go forth today assured of divine guidance in all that you do. Focus your mind upon the Source of your being—God in you. Be poised and serene.

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. (Mark 4:39)

Master Your Moods

GOD RENEWS A RIGHT SPIRIT WITHIN ME. I NOW MASTER MY MOODS AS I CHOOSE THOUGHTS OF LOVE, PEACE, AND GRATITUDE.

Are you the master of your moods or do your moods master you? Do you find yourself seemingly overwhelmed by despondency and depressiveness?

Negative, gloomy, pessimistic thoughts cause great wear and tear in and through our entire system, thus exhausting our vitality and making us more susceptible to physical problems.

Hatred, jealousy, self-pity, and other thoughts of this kind are poison. There is an antidote, however, in choosing cheerful, loving, good thoughts. Think on that which is encouraging, hopeful, beautiful, and true.

Master your moods and you will be a happier, more successful person.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)

Express Love

I EXPRESS MY LOVE FOR OTHERS THROUGH ENCOURAGING WORDS AND ACTIONS.

Be a source of encouragement to people. If you see and admire positive traits in others, tell them so. If you feel impressed by their strength and courage in facing a challenge, let them know.

Acknowledgment of the good qualities within others offers them reassurance and helps build their self-esteem. Expressing confidence in a person’s ability to accomplish something actually strengthens that ability.

In our society many care more about getting their own way than about the well being of others. Self-centered attitudes cause people to complain, criticize, and condemn. Love involves caring enough to keep your thoughts and words positive. Be warm and caring. Give affection and encouragement to others and you will get them back.

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12)

Persist

THROUGH THE POWER OF GOD WITHIN ME, I PERSIST IN DOING THOSE THINGS THAT ARE MINE TO DO.

How many projects have you started and not finished? How many ideas have you had of things you would like to do that you have not acted upon as yet? What is it that you are going to do—someday? To succeed we must have the quality of persistence or stick-to-itiveness wherein we not only conceive our good but unswervingly and courageously keep on toward it. We should practice overcoming tendencies to be wishy-washy by keeping at what we start and by doing the things we think we should do now.

Listen to the “still, small voice” within you urging you onward, and move with it. Refuse to pay attention to obstacles, but persistently move toward your goals. Eliminate from your vocabulary negative words such as impossible, hopeless, or difficult. Keep at the job with tenacity and you will break through all barriers.

I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith. (II Timothy 4:7)
